Santa Claus seems like an old-fashioned guy, stuck in his ways, and who’s to fault him? He’s been taking care of business for a long time, and clearly it works. But, as a realist, I have to reach out to Ol’ Saint Nick and let him know that he’s not getting any younger. There are some tools out there that could make his work significantly easier and more efficient. By implementing five software tools Father Christmas could relieve some stress and gain some more free time, which I’m sure Mrs. Claus would appreciate.
Customer Relationship Management
Santa has a ton of customers he’s trying to serve, and organizing all of those people in one tool is very valuable. While his traditional method of storing the list in massive, handwritten ledgers might be working well enough, imagine how much time he could save with CRM. Not only would he be able to record the letters sent to him under each individual person, but he could keep their addresses in there too. Not having to write everything out in longhand or use a file cabinet to store all of those lists appears to be a no-brainer. A CRM system also allows the user to set up certain flags, so Santa could easily designate the naughty and the nice. Here are some popular standalone CRM products:
I have to assume that Santa would not take all the credit for the miracle that is Christmas. All great managers thank their teams for the hard work that they put in all year round to make it happen, and for Santa Claus, that’s an over-achieving group of elves. These pointy-eared employees work really hard (surprised they haven’t unionized) to build all the toys and gifts, but managing all of them must be a tough task. With workforce management software, Santa can manage his team and track their work including labor requirements, employee schedules and paid time off. We all know these elves have earned their benefits, so other HR software could be useful as well. Here are some popular workforce management tools:

The North Pole is one of the most intricate and massive manufacturing and warehousing operations on earth (I would say the most, but we have Amazon). Inventory management software can help Santa Claus easily organize and manage his massive stores of toys. He can track and locate important shipments and maintain supplier records (keep the elves accountable). Inventory management software often includes warehouse management, which improves the ground floor operations in the warehouse, and general supply chain management. The overall goal of inventory management tools is to maintain efficiency and understand any issues that may arise. Here are some popular inventory management solutions:

It might only take place over one exhausting night, but Santa does a whole lot of traveling. With travel management software, St. Nick can plan trips, purchase flights and record travel expenses, all on one platform. I have to imagine planning out his itinerary is a meticulous and painful process, but travel management could help ease some of that burden. Not to mention some platforms offer frequent flyer benefits, so after Christmas, Santa and his trusty reindeer can go enjoy a holiday on the beach, free of charge. And this is a little speculation, but I’m guessing somebody from the North Pole is responsible for sourcing the raw materials needed for toy building, which leads me to believe that there’s more travel coming from up there than any of us realize. The beauty of Christmas is that people all over the world are celebrating. I’m sure Santa is very well-versed in a number of languages, but the realist in me finds it hard to believe that he could possibly speak or read every language –let alone some of the slang these days. With computer-assisted translation software, Santa can translate all of the gift lists and notes he receives quickly and efficiently. These tools interpret languages using translation memory, which stores previously translated texts, or uses crowd assistance to provide translations. These products provide correct spelling, grammar and phrasing so that Santa can always be on top of his game. Some of these solutions integrate with translation management software and are utilized by translation service providers. Here are some popular computer-assisted translation products:

Each of these software products could benefit not just Santa, but businesses in a variety of industries trying to become more productive and efficient. These products help save time and make business processes easier. Now, Saint Nicholas, I’m not trying to tell you what to do, you’re the boss, but these products would definitely improve some practices that are, frankly, a touch outdated (please don’t take that the wrong way, I’m really looking forward to the fridge I asked for).
